”Let’s go down to the soothsayer.”
A soothsayer is someone who says the sooth (truth). Predicting the future, using magic, intuition or intelligence.
Did you know there are WRONG ways to gain knowledge, wisdom, and truth?
Adam and Eve encountered the first soothsayer in The Garden of Eden:
But the snake said to the woman, “You will not die. God knows that if you eat the fruit from that tree you will learn about good and evil, and then you will be like God!” The woman could see that the tree was beautiful and the fruit looked so good to eat. She also liked the idea that it would make her wise. So she took some of the fruit from the tree and ate it. Her husband was there with her, so she gave him some of the fruit, and he ate it. Then it was as if their eyes opened, and they saw things differently. Genesis 3:4-7a Easy Read Version.
The snake had told them SOME sooth; but NOT the whole truth!
Look at this interesting correlation in 2 Timothy 3:5-7 The Passion Translation:
“They may pretend to have a respect for God, but in reality they want nothing to do with God’s power. Stay away from people like these! For they are the ones who worm their way into the hearts of vulnerable women, spending the night with those who are captured by their lusts and steeped in sin. They are always learning but never discover the revelation-knowledge of truth.”
Sounds very much like the snake and Eve, in the Garden; doesn’t it?
But how do we see this soothsaying happening today?
In many ways it is subtle (just like the Garden), it shouts part of the truth while denying the Whole Truth… (God).
Many people today, like using a spiritual slot machine; will go from source to source looking for “their word” from God. Once they pull the handle and don’t like what they get; they are off to the next. And the next. And the next. Until they finally get the “word” they are looking for.
Do we think God has a different word for us; when we haven’t received THE Word He has already given?
Soothsaying “prophets” have not been enough.
Some have even searched out for themselves soothsaying algorithms; letting computer coding tell them their “word” for the upcoming year.
How about screenshot-ing your magic 8 ball “word” for the day?
They will say in defense of how they received the word…
“But, It (the word) bares witness with my spirit.”
These people say they are Believers!
What spirit are we of?
Taking the Holy and Prophetic Words from God; turning them into something sterile… something gotten from a phone app!
Replacing the FLOWING Revelation from His Spirit to our spirit; with something synthesized and plastic!
Soothsaying alive and well in our modern religion.
How do we escape going down with the lie of the soothsayers?
We must stop and…
Repent! Reject the wisdom of man.
Repent! Reject being driven by our desires.
Repent! Reject prophetic heresies.
Let’s ascend the Hill of the Lord.
Let’s exalt His Name together.
Let’s reject ALL the false ways of receiving knowledge, revelation, wisdom, and truth.
Let’s let, The Bible tell us so!
Let’s NEVER attempt to replace a soothsaying algorithm, for The Living God!
